Thanks Shanghai!

Disney

INTRODUCTION

With less than a month of the officially opening date, Shanghai Disney has been attracting guests since June 16th 2016. Official soft openings for the park began May 7th 2016. Shanghai Disney is located in Pudong Shanghai, China. It is owned by The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group. Construction of the park began April 8th 2011. It was announced on November 5th 2010, that this park was going to be created. There was construction delays , the park originally was supposed to open in late 2015. The park cost about 5.5 billion dollars to create. Tickets for Shanghai Disneyland are cheap. It costs about 75 dollars for adults and 60 dollars for children on weekends and 60 dollars for adults and 45 for children on weekdays. Guests can explore and be a part of 6 magical lands: Mickey Ave, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle, and Tomorrowland. On opening day, similar to Disneyland Park, Shanghai Disney was experiencing ticket issues which caused headaches and folks who waited in line to enter had to wait in long lines for ticket booths. Tickets were sold ou for the opening day in March 2016. Mickey Ave is a mixture of Mickey’s Toontown and Main Street. Gardens of Imagination serves as the park’s hub and viewing area for the fireworks. Fantasyland is home of Storybook Castle, Shanghai Disney’s icon and biggest Disney castle ever with a height of 196.8 feet.

Disney
That was the complete breakdown on what Disney Shanghai has to offer. 14 rides, 7 shows, 7 meet and greets, 8 walk through, and 22 dining options. That makes it 62% of attractions and 38% of dining. Calculating the percentage of acres per attractions and dinning Shanghai Disney has 0.37 percent per acre with attractions and 0.2 percent per acre when it comes to dinning. Shanghai Disney has 963 acres, making it the biggest Disney Park in the world. With this much acreage and that small percentage of attractions and dining options, it seems a bit of a disappointment.
Disneyland Parks is 85 acres and has far more attractions than shanghai, in fact if you combine all the attractions and dining options Shanghai has to offer, Disneyland almost tops it with just the attractions alone.

The Pros and Cons

PROS
CONS
Biggest Disney Theme Park
Food Prices
New Technology
Merchandise Prices
More representation of Princesses and Characters
Amount of Rides
New Lands
Quality could be improved
A new park
Shows could be better
Ticket Prices
Carbon Copies
The beautiful Castle
Representation of Characters

The Biggest Disney Park: This is always a good thing, this is a big theme park which means more room for new cool stuff right?
Food Prices: Reports and guests have been saying prices of food have been high and that can be a bad thing.
New Technology: This is always a PLUS for any Disney Park! Sadly US Parks haven’t seen it yet. BUT the amazing technology on Pirates Battle for the Sunken Treasure is immersive and beautiful, this is soon coming to Avatar Land and Star Wars Land.
Merchandise Prices: Again very high similar with food prices, this is not a good thing
More Representation of Characters: This is a PRO and CON! It is beautiful that we finally see Mulan and Tangled in the parks but not the way I would of expected, a meet and Greet and a themed restaurant is not enough! A Tangled and Frozen ride should have been added into Fantasyland.
Amount of Rides: Which leads to this…. We need more rides in Disney Shanghai, especially in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland which is truly the spirit of Disney and Walt Disney.
New Lands: New lands were introduced like Adventure Isle and Treasure Cove.
Quality can be improved: When Shanghai Disney was announced, Pirates was not the only ride with promise. We also had Tron and Roarin Rapids, But Roarin Rapids lacks a lot, almost being a carbon copy of Grizzly River Run but with different theming. There is a big dinosaur like figure on the ride but it needs more scenic views and audio animatronics.
A New Park: A new Disney park to enjoy this is a PRO
Shows could be better: The only show with promise is the Jack Sparrow and Tarzan show. Ignite the Dreams could also be improved, it is almost a carbon copy of Disney Dreams without Peter Pan’s shadow. The Frozen and Star Wars segments seem out of place. More representation of Snow White could have been added.
Ticket Prices: These prices are affordable for the average American and cheap compared to the US parks.
Carbon Copies: There is carbon copies which seem unfair since The Shanghai Shendi Group made a deal with Disney that the rides that were original to Shanghai Disney could not be duplicated anywhere else in any other theme park. So say goodbye to those carbon copies of Pirates and Tron… Soarin’ over the Horizon seems to be out of the loop since they are given different names and different endings. But Shanghai Disney got copies of the Seven Dwarfs coaster, Winnie the Pooh, and Star Wars Launch Bay.
The Castle: This is a PRO! That castle is beautiful! It is the castle for all the princesses.

The Results

The big budget of this theme park caused an impact across the company. The parks were affected with budget cuts and shorter hours, the company went down in stock and started the quarter poorly. The Gaming department shut down which caused Disney Infinity to be cancelled.

Conclusion

Shanghai Disney is beautiful and has a lot of details but it still needs a lot of work and for the amount of money spent, there should have been more rides than any other theme park. After all here are the facts:
Theme Parks
Acres
Disneyland
85 acres
Disney California Adventure
67 acres
Magic Kingdom
142 acres
Epcott
300 acres
Disney Hollywood Studios
154 acres
Hong Kong Disneyland
60 acres
Walt Disney Studios Paris
62 acres
Tokyo Disney Sea
122 acres
Tokyo Disneyland
126 acres
Disneyland Paris
126 acres
Disney Animal Kingdom
500 acres
Shanghai Disneyland
963 acres

Disneyland Shanghai could be better, I am not impressed. SHOCK! I know right, sue me! The only thing worth it for me seems the Pirates ride, and even yet I will not be desperate to go. The most superior and best Disney park will still be Disney Tokyo Sea.

Shanghai Disney deserves 3 out of 5 stars!
